WELCOME!

Wild Icelandic Horses

Hello. We are three academics who research on various aspects of horse-human relationships.  We are just starting two new projects, under the broad title Human-Horse Relationships: beginnings and endings  - and we are asking for your help!

Who are we? And what do we do?

We are Jo Hockenhull, Lynda Birke, and Nora Schuurman.  We have for a long time been doing research on human-horse relationships, at universities in both the UK and in Finland. We are all lifelong horsewomen, too!

There is a link HERE to our biographies, some of our recent work, and to published papers.

Below we describe the two parts of our study and how you can help us. Further information can be found in the links provided. In Part 1 of our research, we are interested in how horses and their people interact, work together and how new relationships develop over time.  JOIN PART 1.

In Part 2, we are asking you to share your experiences of grief and/or loss either within a horse-human relationship, or from the perspective of your horse who may have lost a friend or companion. JOIN PART 2.
